Welcome to my website!

As I have prepped items for alterations, I paid close attention to how the manufacturer constructed it. Having constructed clothing for years using fabric store pattern directions I was surprised to see that manufacturers didn’t always construct items using the same methods. When altering a clothing item with a different construction method, I would put it back together using the same construction method as original.

These methods included no hand sewing, so I duplicated it when possible. A few years into this part time job I was offered a full-time position. I took it and I continued to observe methods and reconstructing garments. My goals included a correctly fitted garment being securely sewn.

Eventually I was able to devise step by step methods to alter ready to wear clothing. This book contains some more commonly used methods for altering ready to wear clothing. After 10 years with this store I decided to go out on my own and open an alteration shop. After 18 years in the shop I wrote this book. I hope you find it helpful.
